Eat Out in Plymouth
Plymouth is a great place to eat out as it has a huge variety of restaurants to choose from.

City Centre Dining
The city centre has many dining options, as you would expect from the major city of the South West. Types of cuisine available range from Chinese restaurants to Steak Houses, Vegetarian, Italian, English, French, Indian, Japanese, Mexican and Thai restaurants. A perfect way to round off a meal would be to visit the very friendly Stanley Casino in the heart of the city.

Seafood Restaurants
Of course, with Plymouth being a port city there is also a plethora of excellent Fish and Seafood restaurants serving freshly caught fish.

Whatever type of food you are in the mood for, you will find a Plymouth restaurant that caters to your taste. With many conveniently placed multi storey car parks in Plymouth city centre, parking won’t be a problem for the Plymouth diner.

Al Fresco Dining on Plymouth's Waterfront

However, Plymouth food lovers are lucky enough to have even more options than just the city centre when choosing Plymouth restaurants.
Plymouth Hoe has several restaurants with stunning sea views across Plymouth Sound, whilst across the water at Mountbatten, you will also find several fine restaurants overlooking the Sound.

Plymouth Barbican Restaurants

Plymouth Barbican has a plethora of excellent restaurants to choose from, many of which serve freshly caught local fish from the fish market on the Barbican. On a fine night the diner can choose to sit at one of the many al-fresco areas; cosy under an umbrella or canopy, diners can enjoy the sea air, the cry of seagulls and the reflections on the water from the lights set on bobbing boats. If you are eating sea food here, then you may be gazing at the very fishing boat that caught your fish! These atmospheric surroundings add to the enjoyment of the gourmet experience in one of the many Barbican restaurants.

Fresh Local Ingredients
The variety of quality restaurants in Plymouth is truly impressive, with many chefs using fresh local ingredients in their recipes. One evening won’t be enough to sample all these gastronomic delights, so foodies will want to return to try out a few more Plymouth restaurants.

"Bistro Bacchanalia - had a nice meal, attentive but unobtrusive staff, quality food, not too expensive either. I would definitely recommend this place. Closer parking would improve this Barbican eaterie though. Worth trying."

"The best place to eat fresh locally caught fish has to be Platters on the Barbican. A family run informal and highly regarded restaurant where simple classically cooked fish is served to a huge following of Plymothians and visitors. Unpretentious and relaxed. None better."

"Really enjoyed a meal at the Water Dragon at Derry's Cross. Because it's a buffet restaurant you pay a set price per person and can eat whatever you want (good if you have fussy children). The food tasted good and the decor was nice. I thought it was very good value for money."

"Veggie Perrins A vegetarian Indian restaurant; serves delicious meals. All made freshly for you with organic vegetables. Staff are wonderfully friendly, a very homely place indeed!"

"The Chaddlewood Inn - Had a lovely mixed grill there recently. Steak cooked to perfection, and the friendly atmosphere was excellent. I think it was £6.49, which is very affordable and an absolute bargain. The only negative this is that it gets quite busy at times, and seating can be quite limited. Try not to go when there's football match on."

"Morgan's was great. They looked after a big group of people during xmas period. Good food and good service."

"Cafe Indiya - Enjoyed a pre Christmas curry at this smart Stoke village restaurant. The menu here contains both the expected dishes, and a number of interesting and tasty chef specialities. We had simple but delicious starters of onion bhajis, followed by a House special and a chicken tikka masala to share. The CTM needs no explanation, the House Special is a King Prawn dish with aubergine and is highly recommended - its a hot curry dish which is flavoursome without heat overkill, and the aubergines complete it. Couldn't squeeze puddings in this time! Cost was nearly £40 - more than we normally pay here (I think they had suspended the 2 for 1 deal as it was Xmas! 2for1 runs for much of the year during the week and makes this restaurant superb value). Masterchef rating: I could pick those bhajis up and kiss them."

"Dined at the Village restaurant 8/8/10 The worst meal I have had Extremely poor We thought it was a joke until they gave us the bill if this is the taste of cyprus no wonder Greece went bust."

"Had a great meal at Bistro 1 in Ebrington St Plymouth. Stephen Barrett was an excellent host, moving between tables making sure everyone was happy. A seafood mezze for starters was a picture. You should have seen the faces of the people at the next table! We had lobster as well as mussels, prawns, oysters and others. The main courses hake and veggie dish were sublime. Pudding was a choc cheescake and a slither of Sally Black's lovely, lovely cake just to taste. All delicious. Stephen is a font of knowledge about wine and led us gently around the most suitable for the meal. An excellent night, well priced for the quality of the fare at £30 a head. Don't understand why it was empty. Perhaps he should exit Plymouth and open a restaurant in Ivybridge :-)"
